What Is a Sideboard?

A sideboard, also known as a buffet in some contexts, is a long, low-profile piece of furniture typically featuring cabinets, drawers, and sometimes open shelving. Traditionally, sideboards were designed for dining rooms, serving as a storage solution for dishes, silverware, and table linens. Their sleek, horizontal design made them perfect for organizing essentials while doubling as a surface for displaying decorative items.

Modern sideboards, however, have expanded beyond their dining room origins. They now come in a variety of styles, materials, and configurations, making them a go-to choice for other spaces like living rooms, hallways, and even bedrooms. A sideboard can also be the perfect solution for placing under a mounted TV, offering both functional storage and an opportunity to showcase your decor. Whether you’re aiming for mid-century modern, rustic chic, or sleek contemporary vibes, there’s a sideboard to suit your aesthetic.

What Is a Sideboard Cabinet?

A sideboard cabinet is essentially a sideboard with additional enclosed storage in the form of cabinets or cupboards. These cabinets are designed to house items you want to keep out of sight, such as seasonal decor, spare tableware, or unsightly clutter. Unlike open shelving, a sideboard cabinet offers a clean, streamlined look, making it an excellent choice for maintaining a tidy and minimalist appearance in any room.

Sideboard cabinets often come with adjustable shelving or compartmentalized storage options, allowing you to customize them according to your needs. Their enclosed design also helps protect stored items from dust and damage, further enhancing their functionality.

What Is a Sideboard Used For?

While the sideboard’s original purpose was dining room storage, its functionality has evolved significantly. Today, sideboards are multi-purpose marvels that can enhance organization and decor in almost any room.

Dining Room Storage

In its classic role, a sideboard keeps your dining essentials within arm’s reach. Store plates, serving dishes, cutlery, and even wine bottles in its compartments, ensuring everything you need for a dinner party or family gathering is readily available.

Living Room Accent

In living rooms, sideboards double as media consoles or decorative focal points. Use them to house books, electronics, board games, or knick-knacks, while the surface can display photo frames, vases, or a statement lamp.

Hallway Organization

Hallways are often neglected spaces, but a sideboard can bring functionality and charm to these narrow areas. Use it as a catch-all for keys, mail, and other daily essentials while adding visual interest to the space.

Bedroom Storage

In bedrooms, sideboards can substitute for dressers or even function as stylish bedside tables. Their compartments are perfect for storing clothing, accessories, or bedtime essentials.

Office Storage Solution

In home offices, sideboards provide a chic way to keep files, stationery, and tech gadgets organized while maintaining a professional yet inviting atmosphere.

The beauty of a sideboard lies in its adaptability. It’s a furniture piece that evolves with your needs and effortlessly transitions between rooms. If you’re exploring ways to style similar furniture pieces, check out How to Decorate Side Tables in Living Room in 5 Easy Steps.

The Types of Sideboards

Just as their uses are diverse, so are the types of sideboards available. Here’s a breakdown of the most popular styles to help you choose the perfect one for your space:

Traditional Sideboards

Traditional sideboards often feature ornate detailing, rich wood finishes, and a sense of timeless elegance. They’re perfect for dining rooms aiming for a classic, formal atmosphere.

Modern Sideboards

With clean lines, minimalist designs, and often featuring glossy finishes or neutral colors, modern sideboards complement contemporary interiors. These often include features like soft-close drawers and hidden compartments for a sleek look.

Mid-Century Sideboards

Inspired by the design trends of the 1950s and 60s, mid-century sideboards boast tapered legs, simple silhouettes, and warm wood tones. These pieces add retro charm to any room.

Rustic Sideboards

Rustic sideboards embrace raw, natural materials like reclaimed wood and distressed finishes. They’re perfect for farmhouse or industrial-style interiors, adding warmth and character.

Scandinavian Sideboards

Known for their simplicity and functionality, Scandinavian sideboards typically feature light wood tones, soft curves, and practical storage options, embodying a sense of understated elegance.

Glass and Metal Sideboards

For those looking to make a bold statement, sideboards with glass or metal accents provide a sleek and modern edge. These are often seen in industrial or urban-style spaces.

Multi-Functional Sideboards

Some sideboards are designed with versatility in mind, featuring built-in wine racks, sliding doors, or adjustable shelving to suit various needs.

Each type of sideboard offers its unique charm and functionality, ensuring there’s a perfect match for every room and aesthetic preference.

Sideboard for an Aesthetic Corner

A sideboard is so much more than just a piece of furniture, a storage solution, and a versatile addition to your home. Whether you’re trying to organize your dining room, add a decorative touch to your living area, or find a stylish way to store essentials in your bedroom, a sideboard delivers.

When choosing the right sideboard, consider its purpose, the space it will occupy, and the overall design aesthetic you’re aiming for. From traditional to modern, rustic to Scandinavian, the variety of styles ensures there’s something to suit every taste.

2. Address Changes After Shipment / Tracking Number

Customers are responsible for ensuring that the shipping address provided at checkout is accurate and complete. Once an order has been processed and a tracking number has been issued, the shipment is considered released to the carrier.

If a customer requests a change to the delivery address after a tracking number has been generated, the request will require a carrier-level shipment reroute. Due to the additional handling, administrative processing, and carrier fees associated with rerouting an active shipment, a $200 address change fee will apply.

Address change requests are subject to carrier approval and may result in delivery delays. In some cases, carriers may decline rerouting requests once the shipment is in transit.

To avoid delays or additional charges, please carefully review your shipping information before completing your order.
