As the cold winter months approach, it’s essential to prepare your home to ensure the safety and comfort of you and your family. By following a winter home checklist, you can address key areas and take proactive measures to keep your home safe and warm during the chilly season.

In this article, we will explore a comprehensive checklist that covers important aspects of winter home maintenance and preparation. From protecting your pipes to improving insulation, these tips will help you create a cozy and secure living environment.

Inspect and Insulate Windows and Doors

The first item on your winter home checklist should be to inspect and insulate your windows and doors. Check for any drafts or gaps around the frames and seal them with weatherstripping or caulk.

Consider adding window film or using draft stoppers to minimize heat loss.Proper insulation will not only keep your home warm but also reduce energy consumption and lower heating costs.

Additionally, check the condition of your windows and doors for any cracked glass or damaged seals. Replace any worn-out weatherstripping or seals to ensure optimal insulation. Taking these measures will create a barrier against the cold outside air, making your home more comfortable and energy-efficient.

Service and Insulate Your Heating System

A well-functioning heating system is crucial for a warm and cozy home during winter. Schedule a professional service for your furnace or heat pump to ensure it’s in good working condition.

A certified technician will clean the components, check for any issues, and make necessary repairs or adjustments. Regular maintenance will not only improve the efficiency of your heating system but also extend its lifespan.

In addition to servicing your heating system, consider adding insulation to your ductwork. Insulated ducts help prevent heat loss as the warm air travels from the furnace to different areas of your home. Insulating your heating system will optimize its performance and maintain a comfortable temperature throughout your living space.

Protect Your Pipes

Frozen pipes can be a major issue during winter, potentially leading to costly water damage. To prevent this, insulate any exposed pipes, especially those in unheated areas like the basement, attic, or crawl space. Use pipe insulation sleeves or heat tape to provide a protective layer and prevent freezing.

It’s also important to disconnect and drain any outdoor hoses, as well as shut off the water supply to outdoor faucets.

Cover the faucets with insulated covers or wrap them with towels or blankets to further protect them from freezing temperatures. By safeguarding your pipes, you’ll avoid the inconvenience and expense of dealing with burst pipes and water leaks.

Check and Clean Chimney and Fireplace

If you have a fireplace or wood-burning stove, it’s crucial to inspect and clean the chimney before using it during the winter months.

A buildup of creosote, a flammable substance, can increase the risk of chimney fires. Hire a professional chimney sweep to clean the chimney and remove any debris or obstructions.

Additionally, check the damper to ensure it’s working properly and closes tightly when not in use. This will prevent cold air from entering your home when the fireplace is not in use.

Regular maintenance and cleaning of your chimney and fireplace will ensure safe and efficient operation, allowing you to enjoy the warmth and ambiance they provide.

Stock up on Winter Supplies

Lastly, make sure you have an adequate supply of essential winter items. Stock up on rock salt or ice melt to keep your pathways and driveway safe and prevent slips and falls. Keep shovels and snow removal equipment readily available for clearing snow from your property.

It’s also a good idea to have emergency supplies on hand, including flashlights, batteries, non-perishable food, and extra blankets. In the event of a power outage or severe weather, these supplies will come in handy and help you stay safe and comfortable until normal conditions are restored.

Remember, a little planning and preparation can go a long way in making your winter season enjoyable, comfortable, and stress-free. Stay warm, stay safe, and embrace the beauty of the winter season in the comfort of your well-prepared home.

2. Address Changes After Shipment / Tracking Number

Customers are responsible for ensuring that the shipping address provided at checkout is accurate and complete. Once an order has been processed and a tracking number has been issued, the shipment is considered released to the carrier.

If a customer requests a change to the delivery address after a tracking number has been generated, the request will require a carrier-level shipment reroute. Due to the additional handling, administrative processing, and carrier fees associated with rerouting an active shipment, a $200 address change fee will apply.

Address change requests are subject to carrier approval and may result in delivery delays. In some cases, carriers may decline rerouting requests once the shipment is in transit.

To avoid delays or additional charges, please carefully review your shipping information before completing your order.
