Hungarian modernist architect and furniture designer Marcel Breuer developed tubular steel furniture. Breuer, a 1902 Pécs native, studied under Walter Gropius at the Bauhaus in Weimar, Germany. After joining the Bauhaus faculty, he made the Kandinsky-named Wassily Chair (1925) from steel tube.
