Sohnne Care Guide

International standards reference: ISO 105 (colour fastness) · ASTM D4966 / BS EN ISO 12947 (Martindale abrasion) · BS EN ISO 2418 (leather) · ASTM D5793 (foam density) · EN 12521/12520 (furniture strength)

Leather

4 variants

Full-grain / Aniline leather

Full-grain / Aniline leather

Italian sourced · most natural grain

Routine care

  • Dust weekly with a dry microfiber cloth — wipe in direction of the grain
  • Wipe spills immediately with a barely damp cloth; blot, never rub
  • Condition every 6–12 months with a pH-neutral conditioner (pH 4.5–5.5)

Deep clean

  • Dilute mild saddle soap 1:10 in distilled water; apply with soft cloth in circular motion
  • Remove residue with clean damp cloth; air-dry away from direct heat (min. 30 min)
  • Apply conditioner after every deep clean

Avoid

  • Alcohol, acetone, bleach, or ammonia — dissolve natural oils permanently
  • Hairdryer or radiator drying — causes irreversible cracking
  • Direct sunlight >2 hours/day — accelerates aniline dye fade (ISO 105-B02)
  • Wax polishes not formulated for aniline leather — blocks pores

Semi-aniline / Top-grain leather

Semi-aniline / Top-grain leather

Gruppo Mastrotto · protected finish

Products with this material

Routine care

  • Wipe weekly with a slightly damp cloth followed by a dry cloth
  • Use a dedicated semi-aniline leather cleaner (protectant coating must not be stripped)
  • Condition every 12 months; more frequently in low-humidity environments

Deep clean

  • Apply leather-specific cleaner on a foam applicator pad in straight strokes
  • Let dwell 1–2 minutes; remove with clean damp cloth
  • Apply leather protector spray after cleaning

Avoid

  • Abrasive cloths or scrubbing brushes — damage the protective finish
  • Baby wipes or household multi-surface cleaners — pH imbalance strips coating
  • Excessive water — soaking causes staining and structural warping

Vintage / Distressed leather

Vintage / Distressed leather

Italian sourced · pull-up / wax finish

Products with this material

Routine care

  • Dust weekly with a dry cloth; distressed finish absorbs dust more readily
  • Blot spills immediately; open grain absorbs liquids faster
  • Condition every 3–6 months due to open grain structure

Good to know

  • Colour variations, wrinkles, and natural scars are authenticity markers, not defects
  • Minor scratches can be buffed with a clean finger — body heat reactivates the wax pull-up

Avoid

  • Silicone-based conditioners — permanently darken pull-up finish unevenly
  • Steam cleaning — opens grain excessively and causes permanent discolouration

Vegan microfiber leather

Vegan microfiber leather

PU microfibre · animal-free

Routine care

  • Wipe with a damp cloth and mild soap solution; tolerates slightly more moisture than genuine leather
  • Dry thoroughly after cleaning — trapped moisture causes PU layer delamination
  • Avoid prolonged compression — PU does not recover as well as genuine leather

Deep clean

  • Use a mild dish soap solution (few drops in 500ml water); wipe with microfiber cloth
  • Rinse with clean damp cloth; buff dry immediately

Avoid

  • Genuine leather conditioners — oils break down PU coating
  • Heat above 40°C — PU substrate softens and deforms
  • Sharp objects and pet claws — PU microfibre does not self-repair
  • Solvent-based cleaners (acetone, paint thinner) — dissolve polyurethane coating

General rule for all materials

Always test any cleaning product in an inconspicuous area (such as the back or underside) before applying to the main surface. When in doubt, contact Sohnne support at support@sohnne.com before attempting to remove a stain — the wrong method can make it permanent.
